We focus on farm animals and leave dog and cat rescue to the groups who do it so well. But the dogs and cats who have found their way to our farm call it home for their whole lives, and they’re a very special part of our farm family. Our farm kitties and farm-cat fails live in their cat-dominium, protected and flourishing.

  • Daisy, a brown-and-black striped tabby, lounging in the sun on a leafy green cat tree by a window
  • A black-and-white cat curled up asleep on a cushion in front of a rooster poster
  • Sweet Pea, a black-and-white cat, reaching one white paw down from a desk covered in papers
  • Sandy, a yellow tiger-striped kitten, and a young Skunk on a wooden fence rail
  • Four tabby kittens snuggled together on a rug

From the pasture

Rosie and Amelia, out of the kill pen

Rosie and Amelia came to us through a kill pen, the holding lot where horses wait to be shipped to slaughter. Imagine how scared they must have been. We worked with another rescue to bring them home. Sponsoring a horse keeps them fed, trimmed and cared for.

From the barn

Lillibet and the bucket-handle splint

Lillibet is one of our three Sebastopol geese. When she slipped a tendon in her hock, our vet team built her a splint out of a hardware-store bucket handle, and she went on cage rest to let it heal. The care she got made all the difference, and it’s the kind of everyday care our sponsors make possible.

Rainey, a gray-and-white spotted mini donkey, grazing in tall grass with goats behind her

From the barn

Rainey, our senior donkey

When Rainey came to live with us, we didn’t realize how old she was. Then she choked, and she needed emergency vet care. Moments like that one are exactly what the Dessie Fund is for.

Duke, a Redbone Coonhound, asleep in the sunny grass along a wire fence

From the farm family

Duke, back to health

Duke is a Redbone Coonhound who came to us underweight and with heartworms. We nurtured him back to health, and he’s home with us for good.

Skunk, a black-and-white tuxedo cat with three legs, sitting on the floor and licking his lips

From the cat-dominium

Skunk, on three legs

Someone shot Skunk, one of our farm cats, and he barely made it back to the barn. He had to have a leg amputated. Surgery like his is exactly what the Dessie Fund is for. Today he’s flourishing right alongside the rest of the cat crew.

Sweet Pea, a black-and-white cat, reaching one white paw down from a desk

From the cat-dominium

Sweet Pea, saved from the roadside

Sweet Pea was rescued from the side of the road, sick and near death. Now Sweet Pea is safe at home in the cat-dominium with the rest of the crew.
